Those who know nothing about the history of their own country say such things from time to time. They should read newspapers and broadsheets from the 1750s through the 19th century. Our political discourse is the stuff of wimps compared to that. Those who call for this see an advantage to themselves, of course.
Calls to "tone down the rhetoric" are just a ploy by the left to quell dissenting speech, nothing more.
