So I'm out running errands when I swing by a certain Big Name Outdoor Superstore to check out the ammo situation.
Mr. Helpful Sales Guy comes over while I'm trying to work my way through the crowds blocking the shelves.
Mr. Helpful: "Can I help you find something?"
Me: "Yes, thank you, I'm looking for .45 ACP."
Mr. Helpful: "Now are you sure that's the kind of ammunition you're supposed to get?"
Wait for it . . .
Me: "Well, since I carry a full custom build Wilson Combat bobtail Commander 1911, yes, I'm absolutely sure that 200 grain Hornady TAP in .45 ACP is the kind of ammunition I'm looking for."
Idjits.

Yup, freedom of speech is important. It's easier to spot the idiots that way. Maybe when he grows up you can take him shooting.
I love a woman who can talk guns!
Oh yeah!
But I am curious, what store carries that? Can't find the stuff around here bloody anywhere. And the one store chain around here that fits that description spends most of its time out of everything anymore.
Gurlz don't know nuffin about gunz. You better turn in that Wilson and getchaseff a Keltec.
Ha!
The outdoor superstore I was at was out of everything, too, except one box of bulk Remington hardball.
I'd rather pay more and support my Local Small Business Favorite Gunstore, where they'll order what I'm looking for and call me when it comes in.
Oy. Just Oy.
"Why yes, I am sure of the ammo I need for the weapon I am carrying. Now, could you direct me to a salesperson who's not a sexist idiot trying to destroy this stores sales?
If not, the manager will do nicely."
On the other hand, I like your answer better.
Hell...if you don't have to show them which ammo is the .45 ACP you are ahead!
But condescending assholes suck.
Nice one!
His proper response would have been, "Thank you Ma'am, may I have another!".....
I'm guessing he understood abotu 13% of that. Everything after "I carry..." was Swahili
Firehand: The benefit of living in NE is that Hornady is a wee bit easier to find. But I think my close ma and pa store has stopepd carrying red box Hornady TAP (for police). No fancy black case, but same stuff, less cost, and available in 6.8
I may need to see if Wes will order me some of the red box stuff.
Heh.
Everyone is out of everything.
I'm having trouble getting staples like 150gr .30 cal bullets.
I vote with Joe - he didn't even know what you were asking for so decided that you didn't know what you wanted. However, if it had been a guy as the customer, the associated would have immediatly realized that he needed help from someone who did have a clue.
Nice answer!
I'm a large male and honestly, at a big box store it's usually better to give them too much info to start with.
Instead of saying 12 gauge I'll say, "twelve gauge 3 inch double double aught buck" rather quickly.
It's usually good enough to set them back on their heels and start asking you nicely to repeat yourself. Then you can start speaking.....really.....slowly... and embarrass the hell out of them. :P
I find that our local store maintains stock of all popular calibers pretty darn well, and has some oddballs also. The prices are better than the Internet and no shipping. They only raise prices when their costs warrant it. All in all, a very good place. Check it out if you are in southern NH - Riley's in Hooksett.
